How to Make it in America

I don't think the HBO show "How to Make it in America" is getting the credit it deserves...yet. I started watching it when it came out like two years ago, and then there was a long hiatus between seasons one and two.  Now season 2 is is about seven episodes old and it is getting so good.  HBO always puts out great shows, but I feel some of them cater to niche audiences.  I've never liked shows about dead people, cops and robbers, or vampires, but I loved every second of Entourage's glorious eight seasons.  Eastbound&Down and Hung are also fabulous and hysterical and Kenny Powers is one of my all-time favorite characters.

How to Make it in America has the potential to be as big as Entourage.  It caters to a younger, hip audience similar to Entourage.  It has all the components that made Entourage great and appeal to their target audience: sex, drugs, lies, deceit, cheating,  and the overall theme of trying to find success against great adversity.  Kid Cudi has a great supporting role in it and steals a lot of the scenes he is in, similar to Johnny Drama or Turtle.  It is almost an East Coast version of Entourage, as it takes place in New York City.

I think I really enjoy How to Make it in America because I can associate with the two main characters, Ben and Cam.  They are in that transition phase between college and the real world and adulthood.  They are trying to desperately to avoid a 9-5 job that they would be miserable in, and instead are trying to find a way to make money and be happy at the same time, and ho doesn't want that? Check it out if you're not already a fan.

  1. I've never actually heard of this show. But I am a huge TV buff, and it sounds like it's worth a shot!

  2. Sounds interesting, I'll have to keep it in mind when those big study weeks come around and I need an hour break.

  3. First off I have been meaning to get into "How to make it in America", and second, I will agree that Kenny Powers is the man and so is Ashley Schaeffer. They make a great duo.
