Haynesworth Release/Sox Free Agency/I Miss the NBA

The Patriots release of Albert Haynesworth today is bittersweet for me.  I watched this guy play when he was the best defensive lineman in football, somewhere that guy is still there and I think we need to invest more time in him.  Yes, he is a lazy slob right now that is averaging half a tack a game.  The Buccaneers have already claimed him and it is a low risk/high reward move.  The Patriots defense is in need of some serious help so maybe they are clearing some room or thought Haynesworth was hindering the team.  I trust in Belichick so releasing him is the right move, but it obviously would have been great to see Haynesworth reach his potential and team up with Wilfork to dominate and lead us to the playoffs.
The Red Sox need to start making some big moves in the free agency market.  They need to clean house, starting with guys like Papelbon and Ortiz.  I love these guys and they are true Red Sox and fan favorites, but the current roster needs to be shaken up and the team needs to be sent a message that just because Sox Nation adores them, it does not mean they don't need to produce the numbers they are paid for.  Jose Reyes is the guy that needs to be on the top of the Sox list.  He is a dynamic athlete that instills fear in opposing pitchers.  The Sox have not had a great short stop since Nomar and Reyes is the best in baseball alongside Hanley Ramirez.  The Sox could also use another 100 RBI man to back up Gonzo.  If they can find the money, which they can for sure, they need to aggressively pursue Prince Fielder and/or Albert Pujols.  Pitching wins championships and the Sox are hurting for arms. There are a lot of options and the Sox should pick up a few very shortly.
The Players Association and Owners seem to be close to a deal but they let another deadline slip by today.  I love watching the NBA and playing fantasy basketball, and right now I can't do either one.  I am really hoping they strike a deal very soon and get the season underway.

  1. hahah Haynesworth is definitely a lazy slob. I thought from the start that he wouldn't live up to expectations. too bad though because you're right, he has a lot of potential to dominate, as already witnessed by past years

  2. Dear Fishing and Football,

Thank you for helping me sound like an intelligent sports fan in front of other sports fans. You've really helped me get extra points...

  3. Haynesworth is an asshole; such a waste of talent and human skin. Oh well. I think that by releasing him--and therefore removing the elephant in the room--the team's chemistry will better coalesce. That was one hell of a performance against the Jets. Hopefully more guys will step up.
